The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

The 2008 "United in the Olympic Spirit" calendar produced by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) will be distributed to the public free of charge on a first come, first served basis from next Monday (December 3).

With the theme "United in the Olympic Spirit", the 2008 calendar aims to portray the Olympic spirit of "mutual understanding, friendship, unity, and fair competition" through the uniqueness of Chinese culture. The calendar also highlights the pride and pleasure among Hong Kong citizens of having the opportunity of co-organising the equestrian events.

Distribution points include the Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres, public libraries, city halls and town halls, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Museum of History, and the Civic Education Resource Centre on 2/F, Tung Sun Commercial Centre, 194-200 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai.

Distribution counters will also be set up on December 11 in the Kwun Tong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Station and Causeway Bay MTR Station. The Kwun Tong counter will open at 3.15pm and Causeway Bay counter will open at 5.30pm. The counters will close once stock is exhausted.

To publicise the calendar, the CPCE will organise a thematic sharing session "Hong Kong Stories - United in the Olympic Spirit" at 7.30pm on December 7 at Leighton Hill Community Hall, Happy Valley. CPCE member Miss Amy Chan, fencer Connie Ho, sports commentator Li Tak-nang and artiste Szeto Shui-ki will share with participants their feelings towards the Olympic Games hosted by their own country, their resonance with the Olympic spirit and their observations on being an athlete.

Through the photographs and mottoes in the calendar, the CPCE wants to bring excitement to people and inspire their interest and participation in sports and the Olympic spirit.

For enquiries, please contact the CPCE on 2802 0131.
