Enrolment priority to new applicants for LCSD fitness training courses
******************************************************

A priority enrolment scheme to promote the "Sports for All" campaign will be introduced to Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) fitness (multi-gym) training courses to be launched from January 1, 2008.

Under the new enrolment arrangement, any person who has not taken any fitness (multi-gym) training courses organised by the LCSD in the 12 months before similar courses to be held from January 1, 2008, will be regarded as a new applicant and be given priority in enrolment for similar courses.

The arrangement is applicable to all LCSD fitness (multi-gym) training courses enrolled on a first-come-first-served basis or by balloting.

With the implementation of the priority enrolment, on the first day of enrolment on first-come-first-served courses, only applications from those regarded as new applicants will be accepted. Remaining places will be open to all applications from 8.30am on the second day of enrolment.

For courses enrolled by balloting, places will first be allotted to the new applicants. Any remaining places will be allocated to other applicants by balloting.

An LCSD spokesman said today (November 20) that the objective of introducing the priority enrolment scheme was to let more people have the chance to do exercise and encourage those who had not taken the LCSD's fitness (multi-gym) training courses in the past year to enjoy the fun of this sport activity.

"The priority enrolment arrangement for the fitness (multi-gym) training courses will be on trial for six months and a review will then be conducted," the spokesman said.

The fitness (multi-gym) training course consists of 12 classes, covering warm-up exercises, practical fitness exercises, lectures and demonstrations on the proper ways of using fitness equipment.

The course fee is $75 with a concessionary half price offered for the elderly, disabled and students. Any person aged 15 or above is eligible to apply.

Enrolment on the training courses can be made with LCSD district leisure services offices or on ESDlife website at www.esd.gov.hk.
