The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Frederick Ma, today (November 20) welcomed reform measures passed by the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TIC) to bring in more independent members to the TIC Board of Directors and its committees responsible for handling non-compliance matters of member travel agents.
"The reform measures demonstrate the TIC's positive response to public concern and commitment to seek continuous improvement. These measures are in the right direction," Mr Ma said.
Mr Ma believes that the reform will enable more independent members of the public to take part in the daily operation of the TIC. This will enhance the transparency of TIC's work and boost public confidence and recognition. It will enable the council to better discharge its functions of trade self-regulation under public monitoring, with a view to raising the overall standard of the travel trade.
The Tourism Commission will follow up with the TIC to ensure early implementation of the reform measures.
