Equestrian volunteers take time off work (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of The Equestrian Company:

Volunteering is not all about work!

Some 200 Volunteers recruited by The Equestrian Company partook of some fun in a "reunion" outing on a Yuen Long farm today (November 10).

Instead of servicing riders and indulging in other competition-related chores, as they so did in the Good Luck Beijing -- HKSAR 10th Anniversary Cup in August this year, the Volunteers rode on horses and bullock carts, while some went fishing and feeding small animals on the farm.

There were other leisurely activities, including a visit to a bat cave.

The outing, organised by The Equestrian Company (EqCo), was aimed at promoting the team spirit among the Volunteers, who come from different Functional Areas under the ambit of the EqCo.

More importantly, it was also the EqCo¡¦s desire to thank the Volunteers for their work.

Chief Executive Officer of the EqCo, Mr Lam Woon-kwong, and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Ms Miranda Chiu, were on hand to meet and thank the Volunteers, who were also treated to a hearty dinner.

The event was concluded with a lucky draw in which handsome prizes were given away.

The EqCo intends to recruit 1,800 Volunteers to help run the Equestrian Events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in a smooth manner. Close to 1,000 Volunteers have since been recruited.

The EqCo is currently in its final phase of the recruitment drive, which ends on December 31 of this year. Those interested in joining can log on to the EqCo's website www.equestrian2008.org .
