The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in October showed a decrease of 0.3% (862 cases) over September, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (November 7).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of October stood at 290,414 (see attached table), with a total of 499,952 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1.3% in October to 34,171.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.6% in October to 37,595.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.7% to stand at 17,508.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
