PSHA's speech at the Equestrian Pavilion
****************************************

Following is the speech delivered by the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Mrs Carrie Yau, at the Equestrian Pavilion today (November 4):

Mr John Chan, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen

I am delighted to be here today for the opening ceremony of Hong Kong's first Equestrian Pavilion built by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

Not only will it enrich the community's understanding on the Olympics and the Equestrian Events, it will also further enhance the city's Olympic atmosphere.

We believe the 2008 Beijing Olympic is an important milestone in Hong Kong's history and the Hong Kong Government will plan on how to preserve this important Olympic legacy by working closely with related parties including the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

I certainly wish to thank the Hong Kong Jockey Club for their record-breaking effort in preparing one of the best equestrian sites that meets with highest international standard. The International Olympic Committee has been most impressed.

No doubt the community will make the best use of the Pavilion and share the excitement of the Olympics with us all!

     Thank you!
