The Financial Secretary has re-appointed Mr Christopher Cheng, and appointed Hon Chan Kam-lam as Non-Executive Directors of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive for a term of two years, with effect from November 15, 2007.
Announcing the appointments today (October 26), a government spokesman said, "As a Non-Executive Director of SFC, Mr Christopher Cheng has brought insightful and independent advice to the SFC's policy formulation process over the past years. We look forward to his continued support in the work of the SFC."
Hon Chan Kam-lam is the Chairman of the Legislative Council Panel on Financial Affairs and was the former Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Finance Committee. He is also a Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation and a member of the Deposit-taking Companies Advisory Committee. "With his rich experience in financial services-related public services and legislative affairs, we are confident that Hon Chan Kam-lam will provide invaluable and constructive advice to SFC," the spokesman said.
The government spokesman also paid tribute to the outgoing Non-Executive Director, Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing. "The service of Hon Tsang over the past six years has been instrumental in enhancing the corporate governance, accountability and transparency of the SFC. We are grateful for his invaluable contributions and we look forward to his continued support."
The other serving Non-Executive Directors of the SFC are Dr York Liao, Professor Liu Pak-wai, Mr Kenneth Kwok, Mrs Angelina Lee and Mr Shengman Zhang.
