170 orchestras and bands to participate in Youth Music Interflows

    A total of 170 orchestras and bands from local schools and community organisations will participate in the "2007 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows" from November 17 to December 2.

     The "Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows" is organised annually by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It includes contests for Symphonic Band, String Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra and Chinese Orchestra.

     Sixty-nine participatory bands will join the Symphonic Band Contest at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium on November 17 and 18 (Saturday and Sunday) in four sessions. The Gold Award winners of each session will compete for the "Grand Champion" Trophy at the Winners' Final on November 18 in Queen Elizabeth Stadium. Trombonist Jacques Mauger and the Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band will be guest performers in the final.

     The String Orchestra Contest with 19 participatory orchestras will be held at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on November 24 (Saturday). Chairman of the Viola Department of the Central Conservatory of Music Professor Ho Wing will be the guest performer at the two contests.

     The Symphony Orchestra Contest with 21 participatory orchestras will be held at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall on December 2 (Sunday) in two sessions. The Beijing Viola Ensemble will be guest performer.

     Sixty-one participatory ensembles will join the Chinese Orchestra Contest at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall on December 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday) in three sessions. Shaolin, the erhu soloist will be accompanied by the Music Office Instructors' Chinese Ensemble to give guest performances in different sessions of the contest.

     Tickets priced at $20 for all the contests, are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-priced tickets are available to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
