The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, will attend a public forum on Saturday (October 20) to elaborate on a series of new measures on heritage conservation and the 'Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme', and to seek community views on these measures.
The forum will be held from 3pm to 5pm at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre, Kowloon Park, Haipong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
The Chief Executive announced in the 2007-08 Policy Address a number of new measures on heritage conservation to response to the public's aspirations on preserving historic buildings. He also pledged to press ahead with these initiatives in the next five years.
One of the measures is 'Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme Heritage'. The scheme seeks to revitalise government historic buildings in an innovative way so that they may become an integral and lively part of the local community, which in turn will generate wider social and economic benefit.
The Government would actively engage the public in mapping out the details of the measures to ensure the finalised proposal could fully reflect the views of the community and the concern groups, and that a consensus could be reached with them. The Development Bureau would explain the conservation measures in detail to the public, non-government organisations, green groups and non-profit organisations attending the forum, and listen to their views.
The public forum will be conducted in Cantonese. Simultaneous interpretation service will be provided.
