Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 18) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $90,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At the tribunal's hearing, two defendants Lee Cheng Chu formerly trading as Asia Laser Company and Foundation Agents Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $46,091.40 and $22,133.16, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other defendant, Standard Lite Corporation Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $23,625 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $320, $120 and $130 as costs in respect of the claims.
