CHP investigating a report from Hospital Authority
**************************************************

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a report from the Hospital Authority involving a nine-year-old boy who had reportedly consumed a bottled tea.

Initial investigation revealed that the boy reported antiseptic smell on October 5 after drinking the tea bought from a supermarket.  He was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital on the same day.  He was put under observation and was discharged on October 7.

Preliminary laboratory tests conducted by the hospital on the boy¡¦s urine and remnant of the tea today (October 12) showed the presence of chloroxylenol (an ingredient of antiseptic).

CHP is now investigating the case in collaboration with the Police and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department to determine the cause of the incident.  So far, this is an isolated incident and there are no other similar reports associated with the bottled tea.
