Video production competition to promote Basic Law

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education:

     The Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau will hold a video production competition to promote the Basic Law to let Chinese citizens know their obligations and responsibilities within the perimeter of "One Country Two Systems" and the "Basic Law".  The slogan is "Learn the Basic Law, Know your Rights and Duties".

     The competition is co-organised with Department of Justice (DoJ), the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau (CMAB), Education Bureau (EDB) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK); supported by Hong Kong Film Art Association (HKFAA) and Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.

     Applications for the competition are now open.  The preliminary round will be held in January and the final will be on February 23, 2008, at the City Hall in Central.  With the event launched, there will be a series of workshops chaired by Ms Maria Tam and Mr Samuel Yung of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee; Prof Benny Tai of the University of Hong Kong; Lee Lik-chee, a film director; Kwong Po-wai, a freelance film worker; and Mr Ho Fung and Mr Lam Chi-hung, Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the HKFAA.

     The launching ceremony will be held at 2.30pm tomorrow (October 13) at The MegaBox in Kowloon Bay.

     CPCE chairman Dr Pang King-chee, Mr Samuel Yung of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee and representatives from HAB, DoJ, CMAB, EDB, RTHK and other supporting agents as well as the Event Ambassador, Shirley Yeung, will officiate at the ceremony.

     Application forms for the competition and the workshops will be distributed at the launching ceremony. They are also available at the Civic Education Resource Centre, 2/F, Tung Sun Commercial Centre, 200 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, or can be downloaded from the event website (www.basiclawvideo.hk).
