The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, today (October 9) received submissions on the Green Paper on Constitutional Development from legislators and a number of community organisations.
Mr Lam met a group of Legislative Councillors before lunch and received their position paper reiterating their support for the implementation of universal suffrage for the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council in 2012.
In the afternoon, Mr Lam met more than 20 community organisations who handed in signed reply forms from various bodies and individuals expressing support for implementation of universal suffrage for the Chief Executive first before that for the Legislative Council, and proposing that universal suffrage for the Chief Executive should be implemented not later than 2017, in 2017 or after 2017. According to these organisations, their submissions comprise signatures from more than 100,000 people.
