The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in September showed a decrease of 0.1% (389 cases) over August, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (October 8).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of September stood at 291,276 (see attached table), with a total of 499,767 recipients.
Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases showed a continued decrease of 1.1% in September to 34,611.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.3% in September to 37,838.
Low earning cases showed a month-to-month decrease of 0.2% to stand at 17,638.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.6 billion for 2006-07.
