Flamenco diva and prince bring vocal passion (with photos)

    Spanish cantaora Carmen Linares, the great ambassador of Flamenco music will share the spotlight at the "Gala Flamenca Concert" in November with Miguel Poveda, one of the hottest young Flamenco singers today, bringing evocative songs and scintillating rhythm.

     Joining these two inspiring vocalists are leading guitarist Juan Carlos Romero and dancer Rocio Molina who was named best new artist at the Flamenco Festival USA 2004.

     "Gala Flamenca Concert" is one of the colourful programmes of the Mediterranean Arts Festival presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. The concert will be staged at 8pm on November 9 and 10 (Friday and Saturday) at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

     Carmen Linares, since her debut release in 1970, has enthralled audiences around the world with her poignant vocals and individual style that combines tenderness with restless passion.

     Having performed over 30 years, Carmen Linares' extensive repertoire encompasses both the traditional and the contemporary, with every note and every word touching the soul. The New York Times described her as a singer whose "expressive power is extraordinary".

     Winner of the most prestigious Flamenco contest in Spain at the age of 20, Miguel Poveda has been lauded by critics and has performed at major international arts festivals, including last year's Festival of Flamenco USA in New York and Festival of Flamenco in London.

     Tickets for "Gala Flamenca Concert" priced at $420, $320, $220 and $120 are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens, people with disabilities and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Booking discounts of up to 20% are available.
