Sixty Shek Pik Prison inmates receive certificates (with photos)
*********************************************************

A number of Shek Pik Prison inmates today (October 4) received certificates for various examinations in which they participated over the past 12 months. Watching on were their family members, fellow inmates, community leaders and Correctional Services Department (CSD) staff.

The 60 inmates obtained 76 certificates with remarkable results of five distinctions, 13 credits and 58 passes.

Speaking at the certificate presentation ceremony, Vice-chairman of Shun Hing Group Mr Mong Tak-yeung said the CSD's strategy of flexibly providing inmates with a variety of channels for studying was very successful. This could help rehabilitated offenders equip themselves and become reintegrated into the society after release.

Mr Mong said he was impressed by the strong atmosphere in Shek Pik Prison that showed inmates' great interest in studying. "This has also responded to the Government's promotion of continuing education and lifelong learning culture in the community," he said.

Mr Mong called on their families to give inmates more support and encouragement so that their learning spirit could be sustained.

He hoped inmates would treasure the valuable chance for studying, work hard and score good results in order to prepare for a bright future.
