National Day fireworks display on Monday night (with photos)
************************************************************

The National Day fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour on Monday night (October 1) to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Starting at 9.15pm, more than 23,000 firing shells will be discharged in the 23 minute and 26 second display.

The display is sponsored by Hong Kong Chiu Chow Chamber of Commerce and Tak Sing Alliance Holdings Ltd, and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau. The sponsorship amount is more than $3 million.

The fireworks display consists of 10 scenes with different themes. The eighth scene entitled "We are Ready", will celebrate the forthcoming Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, while the ninth scene "10th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return to the Motherland" will feature the number "10" in the sky, with "Just Because You Are Here" as the background music. The fireworks display reaches their climax at the last scene "I Love my Country" with rapid and rhythmic firing of shells to create a stunning impact.

The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Tsim Sha Tsui, Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay and Hung Hom Bypass.

To increase their enjoyment, viewers are invited to tune to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.

People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
