Food premises ordered to close
******************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (September 28) ordered the temporary closure of a Siu Mei and Lo Mei shop in Western District for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The FEHD was informed by the Department of Health of 29 suspected food poisoning outbreaks involving 108 people related to the Siu Mei and Lo Mei shop on ground floor, No. 228 Des Voeux Road West.

"As the food poisoning outbreaks involved a considerable number of people, there are epidemiological grounds to support the temporary closure of the food premises for thorough cleaning and disinfection," a spokesman for the department said.

The food premises will remain closed until the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene is fully satisfied that the immediate health hazards on the premises have been eliminated.

Under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance, the director is empowered to quickly close premises that pose an immediate health hazard to the public.
