Special traffic and transport arrangements for National Day Celebrations

    The Transport Department today reminds the public that a series of special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon to facilitate the National Day celebration events on October 1 (Monday).

(1) Flag Raising Ceremony cum National Day Reception

Expo Drive, Expo Drive Central and Expo Drive East at the new wing of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre; and Convention Avenue eastbound between Expo Drive and Expo Drive East will be temporarily closed from 6am to 11am. The bus terminus, taxi stand and coaches parking spaces at Expo Drive East will be temporarily suspended. In addition, the taxi stands at Harbour Road and Wan Chai Ferry Concourse will also be suspended for the event.

(2) Shaukeiwan National Day Celebration

Road closures and traffic diversion at section of Shau Kei Wan Main Street East, Oi Lai Street eastbound, Oi Yin Street northbound, Factory Street and other streets in Shau Kei Wan will be implemented from 7am to 5.30pm. The metered and motorcycle parking spaces in Kam Wa Street and Wang Wa Street will be temporarily suspended. The carparks on the closed roads will be closed at short notice if the Police consider it necessary.

New World First Bus routes 2 and 720 on journeys to Sai Wan Ho (Grand Promenade) will be diverted via Mong Lung Street, Tung Hei Road, Oi Lai Street westbound and Oi Yin Street, omitting Aldrich Bay Road and Oi Yin Street. The bus stop on Oi Yin Street northbound outside Oi Chak House, Oi Tung Estate will be temporarily suspended. Green Minibus routes 66, 66A and 68, on journeys to Aldrich Bay, will be diverted via Tung Hei Road, Oi Lai Street westbound, omitting Oi Yin Street and Oi Lai Street eastbound.

(3) National Day Fireworks Display

On Hong Kong Island, temporary road closures and traffic diversion will be implemented in phases from 7.45pm at Wan Chai North, Wan Chai South, Central and the Peak. The roads will be reopened until it is safe for traffic.

In Kowloon, temporary road closures and traffic diversion will also be implemented in Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan in phases from 6.15pm.

Public transport arrangements:

A. Mass Transit Railway service:

Train service will be strengthened between 7pm and 11.30pm:

- Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Kwun Tong Line and Tseung Kwan O Line at 3-minute headway

- Tung Chung Line between Hong Kong and Tsing Yi at 5-minute headway

B. Kowloon-Canton Railway service:

Train service will be strengthened:

- From East Tsim Sha Tsui Station from 9.45pm to 11.15pm at 3.3-minute headway

- Ma On Shan Rail from 6pm to 10.45pm at 4-minute headway

C. West Rail, Light Rail and feeder bus services:

Normal Sunday and Public Holiday services will be operated.  Frequency will be strengthened to meet passenger demand if necessary.

D. Tramways service:

Normal Sunday services will be operated. Frequency will be strengthened to meet passenger demand if necessary.

E. Peak Tram service:

Frequency between 7pm and 11pm will be strengthened to 8-minute headway.

F. Central-Mid-Levels Escalator:

The service of Central to Mid-levels Escalator and Walkway System on October 1 will be extended to 2am on October 2.

G. Cross Boundary Coach Service:

The terminus of the Cross Boundary Coach Service between Wan Chai and Huanggang at Wan Chai Ferry Bus Terminus will be suspended from 7.45pm to 11pm. During the above period, the terminus will be temporarily relocated to Hennessy Road eastbound under the O'Brien Road footbridge.

H. Bus services:

Suspension and relocation of bus termini/stops will be implemented by bus companies. Bus routes operating at the road closure areas will be diverted; and service of some bus routes will also be enhanced.

I. Green Minibus (GMB):

The GMB termini/stands at the road closure areas will be suspended or relocated. Routes operating at the road closure area will also be diverted.

J. Ferry Services:

Ferry companies will suspend some ferry services, cancel some sailings or strengthen and alter some sailings.

     Members of the public who plan to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport. In cases of traffic congestion, motorists are advised to exercise tolerance and patience, and observe the instructions of the Police; and watch out for the latest traffic news through media.
