Moscow City Ballet presents romantic "Giselle"
**********************************************

Moscow City Ballet will perform "Giselle" which was adapted by Leonid Lavrovsky and premiered in the Bolshoi Theatre in 1944. It retained Adolphe Adam's poetic ballet music and was well supported by the consummate ballet choreography, which give the production of "Giselle" the element of honest history.

"Giselle" is a ballet classic from the 19th Century Romantic Era. After its first production in Paris in 1841, more than 160 years ago, the ballet never left the repertoire and the stages of the most famous ballet theatres around the world.

The ballet of "Giselle" is famous for its scenes of love and hate. It is a tapestry of love, fantasy, fatality and mystery, and has been hailed as "the Hamlet of the Dance".  Most great ballerinas long to dance the principal role of Giselle, the peasant girl with such a dramatic life, from joy to madness and death. Without a word, the ballerina can only use the dance and facial expressions to express the innermost feelings of Giselle. It is challenging to the ballerinas' acting skills.

Moscow City Ballet's performance was described as "Combined with the technically impressive dancing it was a beautiful spectacle." - Nottingham Articles, UK.

Moscow City Ballet was founded in 1988 by the distinguished Russian choreographer Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, and the dancers are drawn from graduates of the finest choreographic academies and schools in Russia and the Ukraine. With the best traditions of the Russian school of classical ballet, the company is renowned for the perfection of its corps de ballet.  The company's productions all share a clearly defined style, ideas and choreographic integrity, setting high performance standards.  The company is one of Russia's most extensive touring ballet companies. The greatest success has been in the United Kingdom where it has given more than 1,800 performances since 1991.
