An exhibition featuring Hong Kong's achievements in intellectual property (IP) protection and Hong Kong's creative industries was opened today (September 24) in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
The exhibition - "Hong Kong Creativity - Intellectual Property in Hong Kong, China", is one of the events to mark the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the Hong Kong SAR. It has been organised by the Government of the People's Republic of China and WIPO, and co-organised by the Government of the Hong Kong SAR.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China, Mr Tian Lipu, said:
"The Central Government has fully supported Hong Kong in holding this exhibition and will continue to support Hong Kong's endeavours in protecting IPRs. This exhibition, covering a variety of sectors and spanning several decades, highlights progress in Hong Kong's IPR protection and its social and economic development."
The Director of Intellectual Property, Mr Stephen Selby, said this event illustrated how, with the support of the Chinese Central Government, Hong Kong SAR had been able to benefit from the wise advice of WIPO experts and exchange knowledge with other WIPO members.
"This exhibition, which includes both Asian and Western elements, reflects some of the creative talent that has brought Hong Kong, 'Asia's World City', to where it is: the 'Kung Fu' movie genre, innovative fashion and graphic designs," Mr Selby said.
The exhibition will be held from today (September 24) to October 12 at WIPO headquarters. Works created by Hung Chuen-wa, William Tang, Tsang Tsou-choi (contributed by Lau Kin-wai) and Yim Yee-king (Ah Chung), movie clips from the Celestial Pictures Ltd, the Film Workshop Co. Ltd., the Fortune Star Entertainment Limited, the Hong Kong Film Services and the Pearl City Video Ltd., together with the designs contributed by the members of the Hong Kong Designers Association - Alan Chan, Lam Hung and Freeman Lau - will be shown during the exhibition.
Participants of the exhibition include Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO.
Four Youth Ambassadors, who are young students from the Hong Kong Outstanding Students' Association, will be present at WIPO during the second week of the exhibition introducing Hong Kong to the delegates of the WIPO Assemblies. These students will also participate in other programmes organised by the Intellectual Property Department.
