Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 21) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $13,000 on behalf of four employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The defendants, Yeung Kin Choi, Tam Chuen, Yeung Kin Sang and Wu Zhi Yang formerly trading as Yue Wah Restaurant, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $12,905.40, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendants to pay $270 as costs in respect of the claim.
