Students pledge to lead healthy lifestyle through harmonious family (with photos)
************************************************************

The Education Bureau today (September 12) launched 2007 Pledge Day on "My Pledge to Act - A Healthy Lifestyle Starts with A Harmonious Family".

Led by Principal Assistant Secretary for Education Dr Chan Ka-Ki,  Director of Centre for Health Education and Health Promotion, Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and member of the Curriculum Development Council Professor Albert Lee, and other officiating guests from different sectors, students pledged to contribute their efforts to building up a harmonious family by putting filial piety into practice, showing their care and concern to family members in the new school year.

The launch ceremony of the 2007 Pledge Day  was held at Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School.  As well as Dr Chan and Professor Lee, the guests attending the ceremony also included Headmistress of Tai Po Old Market Public School (Plover Cove) Miss Lam Wai-ling, Vice-Chairman of the Federation of Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) of Hong Kong Eastern District and member of the Curriculum Development Council Mr Jao Ming, Supervisor of Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School Mr Leung Chung-sing, Principal of Lingnan Hang Yee Memorial Secondary School Miss Li Sau-yee, and Chairperson of the school's PTA Mrs Lok Wai Kam-yuk.

Under the theme of the 2007 Pledge Day - "A Healthy Lifestyle Starts with A Harmonious Family"- schools can incorporate learning and teaching of different key learning areas and subjects, helping students develop a healthy lifestyle, to build a close and harmonious family relationship, and to equip them to face various challenges in their lives.  The Education Bureau will also organise monthly seminars on different topics, with an objective to rally concerted efforts of parents, schools and community to arouse students' and parents' awareness on the importance of building a harmonious family with a view to helping students develop healthy lifestyle, good conduct and positive values.

In the launch ceremony, guests were invited to share messages of healthy lifestyle and harmonious family with all the students and teachers of the school, and sign the pledge on stage with students and parent representatives, demonstrating the efforts by putting filial piety into practice.  For sustainable development, schools are encouraged to incorporate relevant measures into the school development plans to help students realise the pledge.

The Pledge Day on "My Pledge to Act - Live Hygiene Live Health" was first initiated by the bureau in September, 2003. By making a collective commitment, students pledged to lead a healthy lifestyle and to keep their campus clean.

For the past four years, pledge day activities have been well-received with active support of kindergartens, primary and secondary schools.  To help participating schools map out their implementation plan, relevant resources are available on the moral and civic education webpage of the bureau (http://www.edb.gov.hk/cd/mce).
