Allen Vizzutti to "sound the trumpet"

    Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Sound the Trumpet with Allen Vizzutti" concert by City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong will be staged next month (October) to showcase chamber music.

     The programme includes Hertel's "Concerto for Trumpet in E Flat", Frederick the Great's "Symphony No.1 in G major", Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No.2", Schnittke's "Suite in Olden Style for chamber orchestra" and Vizzutti's (arranged) "The Carnival of Venus".

     Guest conductor Jean Thorel and renowned American trumpeter Allen Vizzutti will give the audience a concert to remember. Also performing will be Andrea Zanchetta (violin), Matthew Wu (flute) and Leanne Nicholls (oboe).

     The City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong has established itself as one of Hong Kong's leading orchestras with a reputation for innovative programming and excellent music-making. Its members are all professional musicians and represent more than 10 different countries including China, Russia, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. The founder and artistic director is Ms Leanne Nicholls. Currently, the orchestra gives a subscription series of concerts each year covering a wide range of styles from Baroque to contemporary works in venues ranging from the concert hall to churches and historical buildings. The orchestra broadcasts regularly for RTHK Radio 4 and has appeared on television in Hong Kong, Australia and Spain.  

     The orchestra has collaborated with many distinguished artists including British baritone Sir Thomas Allen, Danish recorder virtuoso Michala Petri, Australian pianist Roger Woodward, French saxophonist Claude Delangle, Argentinean bandoneon virtuoso Daniel Binelli, Chinese guitarist Yang Xue-fei and pop stars Robin Gibb, Jacky Cheung and Olivia Newton-John.

     "Sound the Trumpet with Allen Vizzutti" concert will be staged at 8pm, October 2 (Tuesday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $250, $180 and $100 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)

     Two trumpet masterclasses by Allen Vizzutti (Conducted in English) will be held at 3pm and 4.40pm on October 3 (Wednesday) at the Concert Hall, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Free admission tickets will be available at the enquiry counter (9am - 9pm) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Hong Kong City Hall from September 17 onwards.  Limited tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
