Contractor fined for violation of safety rules

    Goldenwall Engineering Limited was fined $15,000 at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court today (September 4) for violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance.  The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident on August 14, 2006, at a workplace in Tung Chung when a security guard was crushed by a falling metal gate.

       According to Section 7(1)(c) of the Ordinance, the occupier must ensure that the metal gate installed at the premises is safe and not a health risk. Any occupier who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $200,000 and imprisonment for six months.
