Fellowships and Scholarships for Overseas Studies open for application

The following is issued on behalf of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund CouncilˇG

    The Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council announced today (September 3) that its Fellowships and Scholarships for Overseas Studies (including the award for disabled students) for the academic year 2008-09 had been accepting applications since July 3.

    The fellowships and scholarships are aimed at encouraging the best students to pursue further education in reputable institutions overseas.

    Successful candidates for the awards are expected to have a strong sense of commitment to Hong Kong and be ready to contribute significantly to the community upon graduation.  

    The fellowships are for studies leading to postgraduate degrees either by research or by coursework; the scholarships are for studies leading to undergraduate degrees.

    The applicants will be responsible for fulfilling all application procedures and admission requirements of the academic institutions of their choice.

    The value of fellowship is about HK$283,000 per year for up to three years for Doctoral degree or two years for Master degree; and the value of scholarship is about HK$262,000 per year for up to three years.

    The closing date for all applications is September 28.  Shortlisted applicants for Fellowships and Scholarships for Overseas Studies will be required to attend the first round of interview scheduled for December 2007/January 2008.  Suitable applicants will be invited for a final interview in around March/April 2008.  As for the Overseas Fellowship / Scholarship for Disabled Students, the shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend one round of interview conducted in Hong Kong in March/April 2008.
