Hong Kong Customs was committed to guarding against counterfeit goods activities, a spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said today (August 31).
Shortly before 10.30am on August 29, Customs officers of Lok Ma Chau Control Point intercepted an arriving 45-foot container tractor with a consignment from Guangzhou.
The officers uncovered a batch of counterfeit goods, including 10,000 watches, 4,000 pieces of clothing, 2,000 handbags, 1,000 pairs of shoes, 1,000 mobile phone accessories, 1,800 memory cards and 600 MP3 players. The seizure was worth about $3.1 million.
A male driver, aged 46, was arrested. He is on bail pending further investigation.
Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, it is a criminal offence to import goods bearing a forged trade mark. The maximum penalty, upon conviction, is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
