The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 29) pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $46,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
Chan Ping Hong, trading as Express Engineering Co, did not dispute the amount claimed and the Adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA $46,640.42, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the defendant to pay costs of $170 in respect of the claim.
