The Census and Statistics Department announced today (August 24) the commencement of the 2007 Establishment Survey on Manpower Training and Job Skills Requirements.
The survey aims to collect employers' views on their manpower training and job skills requirements over the medium term. The information collected will provide the Government with crucial information for programme planning and policy formulation.
About 5 000 establishments in various economic sectors will be enumerated in the survey. A questionnaire has been sent to these establishments on August 20, 2007. The establishments are requested to complete the questionnaire and return it to the Census and Statistics Department on or before September 21, 2007.
Information to be sought in the survey includes general information on the establishment; manpower training and job skills requirements in relation to Hong Kongˇ¦s transformation into a knowledge-based economy and China's 11th Five-Year Plan.
The survey is conducted under Part IIIA of the Census and Statistics Ordinance (Chapter 316). It is a voluntary statistical survey notified in the Government Notice No. 4778 in the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Gazette of July 27, 2007. In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance, the collected information relating to individual establishments will be kept in strict confidence and will be used for statistical purposes only. Only aggregate data, which do not reveal details of individual establishments, will be released.
The Commissioner for Census and Statistics, Mr Fung Hing-wang, appealed to the senior management of all selected establishments to fulfill their social responsibilities by completing the questionnaire themselves and returning it promptly to the Census and Statistics Department, as their opinions are vital to the survey.
If necessary, officers of the Census and Statistics Department will visit individual establishments and assist them in completing the questionnaire. These officers will each carry a Government Identity Card and a certificate for conducting the survey, which are available for inspection.
Enquiries regarding the survey may be directed to the Manpower Training and Job Skills Requirements Survey Team of the Census and Statistics Department (telephone: 2716 8098 or e-mail: manpower-training@censtatd.gov.hk).
