The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 23) obtained orders in the District Court for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at about $1,500,000 against six employers. The MPFA pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $140,000 on behalf of 27 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The District Court today issued judgments against six employers, Carice International Products Limited, Million Profit (China) Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, Treasure Union International Investment Limited trading as Euro Commercial Vehicle, Hong Kong Bright Holdings Limited trading as Royal Plaza Court Seafood Restaurant, Chan Tung Shing formerly trading as Wah Shing Design Decoration Engineering and Asia Food Services Co Ltd. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA $685,919.99, $314,064.96, $238,834.50, $197,023.96, $51,810.93 and $35,252 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 19, 61, 13, 62, three and 18 employees of the respective defendants.
At the tribunal's hearing, the defendants, Chan Ping Hong trading as Express Engineering Co, Xenon Limited and Wu Yuk Kwan, Stephen trading as Companion Trading Co, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $49,093.66, $48,972.69 and $26,700.48, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other two defendants, Wong Man Yee Una trading as Duke of York and Uni-pac Property Consultants (Comm.) Limited, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $13,252.75 and $6,152.55, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court further ordered the defendants to pay costs of $930 each for the District Court cases and the tribunal ordered each of the respective defendants to pay $230, $176, $180, $150 and $172 for the tribunal cases.
