Following is the speech by the Postmaster General, Mr Tam Wing-pong, at the "Civic Education" Special Stamps Issuing Ceremony today (August 23):
Mrs Yau, Dr Pang, Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends from the Media,
Good Morning. Welcome today to the "Civic Education" Special Stamps Issuing Ceremony. First of all, I would like to thank Mrs Carrie Yau, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, and Dr Pang King-chee, Chairman of Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, for taking time out from their busy schedule to officiate at the ceremony.
This is the first time that Hongkong Post issues its special stamps with the theme "Civic Education". Featuring the winning entry from the Primary School Division of the "Civic Education Stamp Design Competition" co-organised by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) in 2005, this colourful set of four stamps carries the four main themes of civic education, namely human rights, rule of law, social participation and corporate citizenship. We hope that through this issue designed by a local primary student, it will help enhance understanding of the concept and knowledge of civic education among the young generation and the general public, thereby boosting the civic awareness of the community.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to HAB and CPCE for organising the meaningful "Civic Education Stamp Design Competition", which allowed us to gain an insight into the topic while recognising the artistic talents of the winners. It is only with your enthusiastic support and participation that we are able to pick the best design for this issue of stamps. Thank you.
