The Education Bureau today (August 20) announced the re-appointment of Professor Wong Po-choi as Chairman of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation (CHSC).
Also announced was the appointment of 18 members to the CHSC. New members are Ms Law Wing-kau, Mrs Cheung Wu Pui-lau, Mrs Ching Wan Yuet-yu, Mr Chiu Pit-leung, Dr Paul Yip Siu-fail and Dr Man Ying-ling.
The CHSC comprises members from different walks of life, including parents as well as professionals in education, psychology, accountancy, parent education, broadcasting and medical sectors. They are all appointed to the committee for two years, from September 1, 2007, to August 31, 2009.
Established in 1993, the CHSC is an advisory body of the Education Bureau. Its main roles include promoting home-school co-operation and advising the bureau, other government departments and non-government organisations on ways to promote positive parent involvement in education.
The CHSC is also tasked to encourage the setting up of parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and Federations of PTAs (FPTAs). To date, 97% of the government and aided schools have set up PTAs and 17 districts have set up their FPTAs.
The Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Mr Cheng Man-yiu, believed that with Professor Wong's profound knowledge and enthusiasm in education as well as the concerted effort of its members, the CHSC would continue with its achievements in deepening home-school co-operation and promoting parent education.
