FS has talks in Malaysia (with photos)

    The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, today (August 6) stopped over at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on his way back to Hong Kong after attending the 14th Finance Ministers' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) in Coolum, Australia, and his side trips to Brisbane and Sydney.

     On his first official visit to Malaysia as Financial Secretary, Mr Tsang met the Minister of Finance II, Senator Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and Deputy Finance Minister, Dato' Dr Ng Yen Yen to discuss co-operation between Hong Kong and Malaysia in financial and monetary matters.
 
     Mr Tsang also had a discussion with the Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, Ms Irene Dorner, to learn the latest developments of the banking sector in Malaysia, including the subject of Islamic finance.

     During a luncheon gathering with top leaders of major banks and financial investment entities including Chairman of Bursa Malaysia (formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange), Tun Mohamed Dzaiddin, Mr Tsang exchanged with them issues on global and regional financial development.  

     Other major organisations visited by Mr Tsang today included Khazanah Nasional Berhad, investment holding arm of the Government of Malaysia; Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad; and Bank Negara Malaysia, the central bank of the country.

     Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong tomorrow (August 7).
