Construction works for Central-Wan Chai Bypass and Eastern Corridor Link gazetted
***********************************************************

The Government published in the Gazette today (July 27) the proposed construction works for the Central-Wan Chai Bypass and Island Eastern Corridor Link.

The proposed works serve to provide an approximately 4.5km long trunk road along the north shore of Hong Kong Island and connect the existing Rumsey Street Flyover at Central with Island Eastern Corridor at North Point.  The project, when completed, will alleviate the traffic congestion along Gloucester Road, Harcourt Road and Connaught Road Central corridor and provide road connections to existing and future local road networks in Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay.

The works include construction of a dual three-lane road tunnel between Central and the existing Island Eastern Corridor at North Point, associated slip roads at Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay; modification of a bus terminus at the junction of Man Yiu Street and Man Po Street; realignment of a section of Man Po Street and Man Kwong Street westbound and modification of a section of Island Eastern Corridor.

The construction work is planned to start in late 2008 or early 2009 and is expected to complete by about 2016.

The plans and scheme are available for public inspection at the following Government Offices during office hours:
