2007 SUS Lo Pan Award presentation ceremony

    The 2007 Lo Pan Award Presentation Ceremony was held today (July 26) at the Lo Pan Temple to honour a group of students of the Skills Upgrading Scheme and to publicise the "Lo Pan spirit".

     The event was organised by the Building Maintenance and Decoration Industry of Skills Upgrading Scheme (SUS) of the Labour and Welfare Bureau.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony, Convener of the Building Maintenance and Decoration Industry of SUS Mr Choi Chun-wa said this was the third Lo Pan Award organised by SUS.

     "It aims to give credits and encouragement to our outstanding workers. The 'Lo Pan spirit', underscoring innovation and continuous improvement, matches perfectly with the objectives of SUS which call for employees to upgrade their skills continuously," Mr Choi said.

     Another officiating guest, Honorary Chairman of Kwong Yuet Tong Hong Kong Mr Ho Sai-chu said the high professional standard of participants in this yearˇ¦s Lo Pan Award has indeed demonstrated the success of SUS.

     "Not only do the awardees possess good personal integrity, their high regard for work safety and remarkable construction skills are also beyond doubt. Besides, this event promoted the elevated culture for employees to strive for continuous improvement, lifelong learning and broadening of skills and knowledge within their own professional trade and industry," Mr Ho said.

      Also officiated at the ceremony were Director of Buildings Mr Cheung Hau-wai; President of The Hong Kong Construction Association Mr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung; President of Hong Kong General Building Contractors Association Mr Ho Wai-Wah; member of Construction Industry Training Authority Ir Helen Kwan Po-Jen; Chairman of Kwong Yuet Tong Hong Kong Mr Gilbert Lau and First Vice Chairman of Kwong Yuet Tong Hong Kong Mr Kenny Lo.

     Since its launch in 2001, SUS has embraced 24 different designated industries. It seeks to provide an opportunity for in-service workers of modest educational background (secondary level or below) to grasp updated skills and professional knowledge to enable them to sustain their competitiveness in the labour market. The Scheme also aims to promote the continuing education and lifelong learning culture in the community.
