Design of Hin Tin Swimming Pool's Phase II is safe
**************************************************

A spokesman for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department said today (July 13) that the design of Hin Tin Swimming Pool's Phase II opened to the public on July 11 is safe.

The facilities in Phase II comprise a 10-metre indoor Jacuzzi and a 50-metre indoor main pool with the water depth increases from 1.4 metres to two metres. There are swimming pool facilities of similar design under the department's management.

The spokesman clarified that on July 11, about 1500 swimmers had used the swimming pool facilities and there were only three rescue cases instead of 10 cases which were reported by some media. Of the three cases, one swimmer was not good at swimming while another had a cramp and the third one was too tired. All swimmers of the above cases needed not to be sent to hospital.

He pointed out that the swimming pool staff had recorded all rescue cases and special incidents.

In the past two days, one swimmer was rescued because of running out of strength while another sought assistance because of poor swimming skill, he added.

He reiterated that the design of the swimming pool is safe. Nevertheless, as some of the swimmers may not be familiar with the new facilities, the staff of the swimming pool had posted clear signages and reminded swimmers of the depth of the main pool. In view of the concern raised, the department will strengthen its effort to remind swimmers and enhance signages.
