Unlicensed food premises smashed (with photos)

    Officers of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 13) smashed an unlicensed food factory and an unlicensed fresh provision shop in Wong Tai Sin.

     About 1,700 kilogrammes of food, including blood pudding and meat balls, were seized in the operation.

     A man and a woman were arrested in this morning's raid are assisting investigations.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed food premises is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

     "We will continue our stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health," a department spokesman said.

     "People should report such illegal activities through the department's hotline at 2868 0000."
