The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has appointed Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung as Chairman of the Consumer Council for two years with effect from today (July 13).
Professor Cheung is a Professor of the Department of Public and Social Administration at the City University of Hong Kong. He has rich and extensive experience in public service and has served on the Consumer Council since January 1, 2002.
"Professor Cheung has provided sound advice and support to the work of the Council. With his extensive experience in public service and enthusiasm in consumer protection work, we are confident that Professor Cheung will provide able leadership and guidance to the council in the coming two years," a government spokesman said.
"We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Chan Ka-keung, who has assumed the post of Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, for his invaluable contribution to the work of the council. We believe that the council, under the leadership of Professor Cheung, will continue to uphold its key role in protecting the interests of consumers and the public."
The appointment of Professor Cheung is published in the Gazette today.
