President Hu Jintao this morning (June 30) visited the naval base of the Peopleˇ¦s Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison at Stonecuttersˇ¦ Island.
Accompanied by the Commander of the PLA Garrison in Hong Kong, Lieutenant General Wang Jitang, President Hu inspected the garrison at the compound and addressed an assembly of PLA troops in the hall. Afterwards, he toured the living quarters.
Meanwhile, State Councillor Mr Tang Jiaxuan, accompanied by Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Rafael Hui, went to Ocean Park this morning to officiate at the presentation ceremony of two young giant pandas to the HKSAR.
Mr Tang also visited the two giant pandas, Le Le and Ying Ying, at their new habitat and showed keen interest in learning how the pandas were adapting to their new environment.
