Violist Phillip Ying will perform with the Vermont Youth Orchestra (USA) and Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra next week as part of the "Symphonic Trilogy". Ying is an Associate Professor at the Eastman School of Music and a faculty member at the Interlochen. The concert will be at the Auditorium of the Kwai Tsing Theatre at 8pm on July 6.
Two youth orchestras from the United States will perform with the local talent in two different concerts on July 6, featuring classical music and Chinese melodies.
Under the baton of distinguished conductor Troy Peters, Ying will perform Bloch's "Suite Hebraique" and Bruch's "Romance in F Major" for Viola and "Orchestra, Op.85" with the Vermont Youth Orchestra and the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra.
The two orchestras will also join in interpreting Li Huanzhi's "Spring Overture", a Chinese symphonic work of the 20th century. Other programme highlights include Tchaikovsky's "Finale from Symphony No. 4 in F Minor", Peng Xiuwen's "Dance of the Yao Tribe", Wu Hua's "In the Deep of the Night", Li Minxiong's "Flying Dragon and Leaping Tiger" and Schmeling's "Hungarian Dances Nos. 5 & 6". This concert is also part of the summer extravaganza "International Arts Carnival 2007".
Founded in 1963, the Vermont Youth Orchestra draws its members from talented young musicians in Vermont, New York and New Hampshire. It presents three major concerts every year at Burlington's Flynn Centre for the Performing Arts. The orchestra has also performed with renowned violinist Midori.
The third concert of the "Symphonic Trilogy" will be presented by the Youth Orchestra, CYCNY (Chinese Youth Corps of New York) (USA) and Hong Kong Youth Strings at 8pm on July 6 at Ko Shan Theatre. The two orchestras will perform a number of popular and light classics, including Bach's "Brandenburg Concerto No.3", the popular "When Will You Come Again", Bizet's "Les Toreadors, from Carmen Suite", Brahms's "Hungarian Dance No. 5", John Kander's "New York, New York" and Hardiman's "The Lord of the Dance".
Since its establishment in 1995, the Youth Orchestra, CYCNY has been actively performing in the local community in New York. The orchestra performed in Vienna, Salzburg and Prague for the Mozart Festival last summer.
The first concert of the "Symphony Trilogy" was completed on June 23.
The Symphonic Trilogy is presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $60 and $40 for the concert performed by Vermont Youth Orchestra and Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra, and $40 and $20 for the concert performed by the Youth Orchestra, CYCNY (USA) and the Hong Kong Youth Strings, are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
