***********************************************************

Following is the speech by the Acting Financial Secretary, Mr Stephen Ip, at the launch of "A Symphony of Lights" Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre tonight (June 26):

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Thank you for joining us this evening for the launch of the special "Symphony of Lights" celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

"A Symphony of Lights" was accomplished with the joint efforts of the Government, the private sector and the Chinese People's Liberation Army Forces Hong Kong.  To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this spectacular light and sound show is further expanded with the addition of ten buildings.  In a moment, we shall enjoy a new symphony performed by 43 buildings on both sides of the harbour.

Since its launch in early 2004, "A Symphony of Lights" has attracted over 6 million spectators.  It has provided business opportunities for the tourism and related sectors such as restaurants, hotels, harbour cruise and tour operators.

Before we enjoy the show, I would like to thank all participating organisations for their contribution and support.  We look forward to joining hands with the private sector in developing more innovative and exciting tourism projects in Hong Kong!  Thank you very much.
