Exchange of views on law and order (with photos)
************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, today (June 21) met Tsuen Wan District Councillors to listen to their concerns and to exchange views on law and order issues.

During a visit to the Tsuen Wan District, Mr Lee told the District Councillors that Tsuen Wan Police and relevant government departments would continue to take various measures and initiatives to address residents' concerns about fighting crime, and further improving law and order in the district.

The Tsuen Wan Police had formed a special task unit to deal with serious domestic violence cases, set up a telephone hotline to foster closer communication with the Social Welfare Department, and referred cases to the department for follow-up action, Mr Lee said.

On the prevention of street deception cases, the Police had established a close working relationship with local banks and would conduct publicity and educational activities at schools and elderly homes to remind people, in particular the elderly, not to fall prey to tricksters.

To curb drug-related and vice activities, Mr Lee said the Police would step up inspections of entertainment premises, and conduct regular blitz operations and promotional and educational activities, while the Fire Services Department would inspect buildings to ensure that fire appliances and equipment were properly installed and maintained, and fire exits were free from blockage.

Accompanied by the Tsuen Wan District Officer, Mrs Alison Lau, Mr Lee visited the Lei Muk Shue Developing Horison Centre of the Society for the Aged (SAGE) to learn more about the facilities and services provided to the elderly.

With a subsidy of $300,000 from the Community Investment and Industry Fund, the SAGE launched a programme in Lei Muk Shue Estate in 2004 to build a better community. The centre started its operation in November, 2006, to provide services to the elderly aged 55 and above in the community. Services include support services, social and recreational activities, carer services, community education, counselling and stress management.

Mr Lee also visited Nina Tower, a new landmark in Tsuen Wan. In addition to commercial premises, convention, exhibition and hotel facilities, the tower also has a bus terminus and a fossils garden.
