Yi Jin/Secondary Schools Collaboration Project 2007/08
******************************************************

Thirteen schools would join the Yi Jin/Secondary Schools Collaboration Project in the 2007-08 school year, the Education and Manpower Bureau said today (June 15).

The Collaboration Project is modelled on the structure of the one-year Project Yi Jin (PYJ).  It aims to provide an additional pathway to the traditional Secondary Five curriculum students to help them fully develop their multiple intelligence and potential.

The PYJ curriculum, which emphasises practical skills training and is geared to students in favour of a practical curriculum, caters for different aptitudes and learning needs of students.

The Federation for Continuing Education in Tertiary Institutions together with the participating secondary schools will provide the PYJ curriculum for students who have completed Secondary Four, or aged below 21 and have never sat for the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE).

The one-year programme comprises seven core modules (Chinese, English I and II, Mathematics in Practice, IT Application, Putonghua, and Communication Skills) and three electives such as Tourism, Elementary Logistics Management and Chinese and Western Cookery. Three modules will be taught in tertiary institutions while the rest will be taught in the secondary schools.

Students who can successfully complete the programme will be awarded a full certificate, which has been assessed as comparable to five passes in the HKCEE. They may pursue higher level of studies such as diploma and sub-degree programmes or apply for civil service posts requiring five passes in HKCEE.
