Common Magpie tested for H5 virus
*********************************

Preliminary testing of a Common Magpie found in Sha Tin had indicated a suspected case of H5 avian influenza, a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said today (June 5), adding that further confirmatory tests were being conducted.

The carcass of the bird was collected by department staff at 13 Jat Min Chuen Street, Sha Tin, following a public referral on May 31.

A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal hygiene.

"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds and live poultry and wash their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said.
