"Dragon Jamboree", a variety-filled performance featuring 10,000 youngsters from the Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong will be held on June 30 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Coliseum in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Some nine thousand local primary and secondary students attended a mass drum rally rehearsal lead by renowned percussionist Dr Lung Heung-wing at the Hong Kong Coliseum today (May 27) to practice on a percussion piece which is expected to set new a Guinness world record.
Executive Director of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Dr Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Thomas Chow, and Assistant Director of Broadcasting (Radio) Tai Keen-man were present to support the participants. Last but not the least, 100 children born in 1997 will be participating in the "Happy Birthday" session.
The themes of the show are "Dragon", "Music", "Drums" and "Dance" featuring a wide variety of performances including drum rally with 10,000 drummers, dragon dance by youngsters, 10-piano ensemble by young music talents, mass singing, dance medley of the traditional and the popular, as well as a showcase of pop stars.
Pianists performing in the 10-piano ensemble include Colleen Lee, Aristo Sham, Crystal Lam, Chau Lok-ping, Chau Lok-ting, Julie Kuok, Eric Fung, Rachel Cheung, Wong Wai-yin, and Lio Kuok-wai; also present in the show are precocious young pianist Zhang Shengliang from the Mainland, pop singers Alan Tam, Eason Chan, Hins Cheung, Cao Ge, Kelly Chan, TWINS, Hacken Lee, Joey Yung, Leo Ku, etc.
"Dragon Jamboree" is presented by the Home Affairs Bureau, All-China Youth Federation, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; co-presented by Radio Television Hong Kong, Home Affairs Department, the Education and Manpower Bureau and China Central Television.
The show will be broadcast live on RTHK Radio 2 and TVB Jade on June 30, and via China Central Television for mainland and overseas broadcast.
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the All China Youth Federation began organising dragon-themed events in 2000. The "Dragon Jamboree" is the fifth event in the series. In 2002, "The Music of the Dragons" Concert, celebrated the 5th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR and a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous percussion performance was set.
