Bun Scrambling Competition comes to fruitful end
************************************************

The Bun Scrambling Competition of the 2007 Bun Carnival to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region ended early this morning (May 25) at Pak Tai Temple Playground soccer pitch, Cheung Chau.

At a signal by officiating guests, 12 contestants, comprising 11 men and one woman, climbed a 14-metre-tall bun tower and had three minutes to snatch as many buns for the highest scores.

Divided from the bottom to the top into three zones, the tower was studded with buns representing one, three and nine marks. For easy identification, the buns had special colour stamps on the bottoms. The contestant who scored the highest marks from all the buns collected was the champion.

After an exciting competition, the trophy eventually went to Kwok Ka-ming, who scored 648 marks.  The first runner-up, Chu Ka-Wai, scored 639 marks. The second runner-up went to Tam Chung-him, who scored 585 marks.

For the first time, organisers this year also invited teams from outside Hong Kong to join the Invitation Relay to compete against teams from Cheung Chau. The three teams from Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Macau are Vertex Adventure Team, Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoorsports Association and Clube de Escalada Guia Macau respectively.

Two members of each team had to get specified buns on the bun tower in relay in the shortest time.

Finally, Shenzhen Mountaineering and Outdoorsports Association won the championship in 2 minutes 9.96 seconds while the Vertex Adventure Team was the first runner-up who spent 2 minutes and 23.27 seconds. The second runner-up, Cheung Chau Sai Wan Ma Sing Temple Management Association, took 2 minutes and 37.36 seconds to finish the race.

Organised by the Hong Kong Cheung Chau Bun Festival Committee and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the Bun Scrambling Competition received support from the Cheung Chau Wai Chiu County Association Limited, Cheung Chau Rural Committee, Islands District Office of the Home Affairs Department, and the Hong Kong Mountaineering Union, and sponsored by the Islands District Council and 3-D Gold Jewellery.

The activity was well-received, attracting over 1,500 spectators at the soccer pitch and Cheung Chau Sports Centre.
