**********************************************************

To mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Asian Business Network Association (ABNA) today (May 11, Toronto time) launched  its Chinese Canadian Legend 2007 celebrating the "Hong Kong Spirit" with a theme on "Never give up ever Spirit - the Inspirational Essence Spanning Hong Kong and Canada".  The event is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO)  in Canada.

Since its inception in 2000, Chinese Canadian Legend has recognized and honoured individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.  Currently 49 individuals/organizations have been highlighted.   Senator Vivienne Poy and the HKETO Director Mr. Bassanio So are the Honorary Patrons of this year's event.

The recipients of Chinese Canadian Legend root from all walks of life and various sectors including business, politics and community services.  Their credentials are not based on position, status or wealth, but their ability to create a better society through their generosity of heart, and their ability to illuminate the path to achievement despite the trials and tribulations along the way.

At today's press conference, the Director of HKETO, Mr Bassanio So, noted that the plight of the Chinese Canadian was akin to the plight of Hong Kong itself and he considers it appropriate to support the event.

As this year's event is held to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, nominees are required to encompass the "Hong Kong Spirit" - they can be affiliated with Hong Kong through relations and associations. They do not necessarily have to be born in Hong Kong.   Nominees will go through a selection process with a committee of community representatives.

Nominations  for Chinese Canadian Legend 2007 commence today until June 15, 2007.

A gala banquet will be held on October 27, 2007 at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel in Richmond Hill where the selected recipients will be honoured.
