Police today (May 11) appeal to shop owners who recently faced extortion in Kowloon City to come forward.
The appeal was made following the arrest of a 23-year-old man on May 11 for blackmailing a shop in To Kwa Wan.
Police enquiries revealed that on May 8, the 23-year-old man phoned the shop and demanded an amount of $400,000 from the shop owner but to no avail.
A report was made to the Police and investigations were taken over by the District Anti-triad Squad of Kowloon City (DATS/KC).
At about 12 noon on May 11, the 23-year-old man arrived at the shop demanding for $40,000. He was intercepted by the officers ambushing in the vicinity after he received the marked money from the shop owner.
He was arrested for blackmail and is still being detained for enquiries.
Shop owners in Kowloon City who had been victimized but did not report their case are urged to contact the investigating officers of the DATS/KC at 2761 8200.
