The Government today (April 12) announced that the Chief Executive had appointed Dr Alice Lam Lee Kiu-yue as the Chairman of the Education Commission (EC) for a term of two years from May 1, 2007 to April 30, 2009.
The Secretary for Education and Manpower, Professor Arthur K C Li said, "We are pleased to have Dr Lam as the Chairman of the EC. Dr Lam has rich experience in the education sector and the public service, and has been an ex-officio member of EC since 1999 in her capacity as the Chairman of University Grants Committee. We are confident that she will be able to lead the EC in advising the Government on the different domains of education with a view to enhancing the quality of education in Hong Kong."
Professor Li also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Chairman, Dr Rosanna Wong. "During the past six years, Dr Wong has demonstrated superb leadership and strong commitment to the work of the EC. Under her leadership, the EC has provided valuable advice on various education policies. We are particularly grateful to her for her insightful advice and staunch support as she led the EC in taking up the unprecedented challenge of overseeing the launching of the various Education Reform initiatives," Professor Li said.
