Hospital Authority statement on Prince of Wales Hospital incident of body collection
*********************************************************

In response to media enquiries about the incident of body identification and collection at Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH), the Chief Executive of Hospital Authority (HA), Mr Shane Solomon, gives the following reply:

The HA Head Office was informed of the incident today (April 11 ) and is deeply concerned. While noting that PWH has extended an apology to the two concerned families, we will ensure the hospital management is taking whatever necessary follow-up measures to facilitate and assist the family members. At the same time PWH is required to submit a full investigation report to the Head Office in one month time with recommendations and remedial measures to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.

At present there are established guidelines and procedures for staff of public hospital mortuaries to follow in the management and collection of the body of deceased patients. The procedural guidelines are under constant review and revision to meet operational needs.
